Fred the Squirrel

This is Fred. He was named after Fred Sanford because he grabs his chest while staring at my tomato plant. "I'm coming Elizabeth, this is the big one."

Or maybe, he is just shocked that I can grow tomatoes on my deck.

The Elusive Hawk

Do you know how hard it is to get a picture of a hawk? This guy has been hanging around for a while and every time I pick up my camera - he bolts.

I suspect he is looking for this little guy:

Hummingbird

Are there real hummingbirds in hummingbird cake?

When I was little, our school served a nasty concoction of yellow cake and pineapple and called it hummingbird cake - go figure.

Buzy Bee

Good lord honey, it is hot in Raleigh. One advantage of living in this area is the beautiful flowers and another is terminally big hair.

He Wore Blue Velvet

This guy showed up in my backyard this afternoon and stayed around long enough for me to grab a picture. Note the velvet on his antlers.

Writers in the Sky

When I was working in the yard on Saturday, I looked up and saw this:

The lost art of skywriting! But hold on, what is it ... is General Electric using the sky to advertise wind technology? How clever!

Uh-oh ... this is beginning to look familiar ...

Wait for it ...

Good grief! Just how big is their marketing budget!

Greenfield Park, Wilmington, NC

If you are in the Wilmington, NC, area this week you should check out the Greenfield Park. The azaleas are at their peak and the park is gorgeous. There is a paved sidewalk that covers a 4-mile trek around the park with lovely vistas and fragrant gardens. For more info about the park, go to http://www.ci.wilmington.nc.us/Departments/PublicServices/Parks/CityParks.aspx

If you go, you will see beautiful azalea specimens:

The Big Snow of '09

We had our second snow of the year and this one was very pretty and about 4 inches. Because we are in the South, our snows don't stay on the ground too long, in fact, the forecast is for 74 degrees for Saturday.

Photographed in our backyard on March 3, 2009.

What's My Name?

This little guy showed up in the backyard around 4:30 yesterday for a quick visit. What is he? A wolf? A coyote? He looks too big to be a fox.

Here are a few more shots of our little visitor:

Mystery solved: he is a coyote!
